The other day, Wired reported that researchers at Ben Gurion university in Israel had successfully hacked an air-gapped computer system using a heater, and that system’s built-in thermal sensors. Since an air-gapped system is designed to be entirely cut off from any means of talking to another computer – thus making them suitable for storage and manipulation of ultra-sensitive data – this is conceptually rather alarming.
